BASC members to benefit from new stalking initiative
Deer managers holding DSC2 can be added to BASC’s new register.
BASC has launched an initiative that aims to open deer management opportunities to its members. Its register of competent stalkers will connect those who hold BASC membership with landowners, government agencies and institutional bodies that are looking for individuals to carry out deer management.
The register is designed for those who have achieved DSC Level 2, which is the minimum qualification that most landowners require. It will also help to streamline the process of getting experienced stalkers on the ground.
BASC’s head of deer and woodland management Martin Edwards said: “This is an exciting initiative that will open up more opportunities to BASC members, and reinforce the fact that competent volunteer deerstalkers are a vital tool when it comes to managing the UK’s deer population.”
BASC will hold the details of any members wishing to apply, including their location and qualifications. When needed, it will contact those on the register in the area and put them in contact with the relevant parties.
