Locals say they’ll boycott show over hound parade
Some Chepstow residents plan to boycott this year’s Chepstow Show over disagreements related to the inclusion of foxhounds in the show schedule. Traditionally, both the Wollaston Bassets and the Curre and Llangibby Foxhounds are invited to the show.
Marcus Hobbs said: “Foxhunting of any kind is abhorrent to me. I will not be attending the show because of this. The organisers have made a massive mistake and failed to realise how many locals are against the hunt being a part of the show.”
Others disagreed, posting comments online praising the hounds’ inclusion and lauding the benefits to the countryside of legal trail-hunting.
The Chepstow Show is organised by the Chepstow Agricultural Society, which said the event was “a traditional agricultural show”. It added: “The society looks to promote the skills and craftmanship of the rural community. Local organisations, businesses and companies from all walks of life attend the event. Chepstow Show has no affiliation with any of these organisations.”
The show takes place at Chepstow Racecourse on Saturday, 10 August, showcasing livestock, horticulture, home crafts, vintage and dog sections.
