Defra: Labour is a “good solution” for rural England

Defra Minister Daniel Zeichner claimed that Labour is a “good solution” for rural England during its party conference last week. He also praised the important advice shooting organisations have offered the government since the General Election in July.

Speaking to a full house at the joint BASC and Angling Trust event in Liverpool, Mr Zeichner said that his party must show rural England “that Labour is not the problem”. He also stated that the Government would continue with its “commitment to a nature-friendly, environment-friendly countryside”.

Mr Zeichner commented on the regular fruitful meetings he has held with BASC over recent years, remarking, “I am really appreciative of the advice the organisation has given to Labour. It is a really important role that your organisation and your members will play in the future of the countryside in the years ahead. I readily endorse this co-working,” he added.

BASC chief executive Ian Bell said, “We are delighted that BASC and sustainable shooting are recognised as having a positive role to contribute to Labour’s countryside agenda. A vast number of our members live in Labour constituencies and we look forward to continuing to build a fruitful relationship with this government.”
