New suspected case of foot and mouth disease
Defra have stated the exact location of the suspected outbreak was a property on Stroude Road in the town.
Egham is situated is on the A30, about 18 miles from central London.
A Defra spokesman has said: “The disease has not been confirmed at present. This is just a suspected case. Test results are expected later but we cannot confirm at what time.”
The authorities have set up a 10km control zone around the affected site, and a slaughter of suspect animals has been ordered.
Prime minister, Gordon Brown, will head a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee at 17:00hrs today, just four days since the government declared the previous FMD outbreak was over.
