Do I have to tell the Police when I’m pigeon shooting?

Shooting legal advice
DAVID FROST says:
Yes, provided I was reasonably certain that everyone else was doing the same thing.

I don’t know how many people shoot in the area you’re talking about but can you imagine what would happen if everyone who was planning to turn out on a Saturday phoned in with details of when and where they were going?

It would be absolute bedlam and all the phone lines would be jammed solid.

I predict that by the Monday morning the police would have realised what an idiotic request they had made and be asking everyone to ignore it.

There is a serious issue about armed units being called out when there are reports of shots being fired in the countryside.

Generally speaking armed criminals operate in cities and shots being fired in the country are likely to be from legitimate shooters minding their own business.

Armed response units should take this into account.
