Georgina Geikie: Olympian school ambassador
London 2012 British Pistol Shooter Georgina Geikie attended the first event of her initiative “Shooting4England” at the Tunnel Target Sports Centre, Dorset, on 16 and 17 February. The weekend event organised as part of Georgina’s Olympic legacy project offered the chance for children to try shooting sports for the first time.
She said, “There was a great mix of children and adults on both days, predominantly from the six schools that I had visited in the preceding weeks.
But the weekend was also open to any child 14 years and over who pre-booked. It was clear what an inclusive and participative sport shooting is, when the boys and girls took part in the first qualification competition, alongside parents and teachers. A great competitive atmosphere circulated.”
She continued: “Anyone who would like their school to be involved or feels they can help support the programme, can email gorgs@gorgs4gold.com.”
Shooting4England’s next event is in South Devon, at Paignton Rifle Club on 11 and 12 May. For more information, visit www.gorgs4gold.com.
