How you can improve your clayshooting at the CLA Game Fair 2015

Do you want to learn, compete, watch famous international Shots, have your gun checked or shop for new equipment?

This year the Clay Line at the CLA Game Fair has been renamed the Shooting Line and it’s where you can enjoy demonstrations and try your hand at several competitions.

Fancy shooting some clays?

Then visit one of the eight Pay and Clay stands, which will provide different types of simulated game or sporting targets. Guns are available (or you can bring your own)  and you can buy a ticket for as many stands as you wish. An instructor will be by your side to offer tips if needed.

And if you’re feeling competitive …

Then take part in the 40-Bird Re-Entry Competition which you can enter over and over again. Your highest score is the one that counts. Prizes are awarded daily for Gold, Silver, Bronze, Ladies and Junior Classes. The Platinum Overall High Gun Award runs throughout the three days of the show.

Improving your shooting

If afterwards (or beforehand) you feel that you need to brush up on your skills, then you can take advantage of the expert tuition available which will be provided by: The British Association for Shooting & Conservation (BASC), the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) and the Countryside Alliance.

There are plenty of coaches available who’ll be able to offer advice whatever level you are. The BASC have a 25-strong team of BASC-accredited shotgun coaches to give shotgun coaching lessons suitable for both beginners and experienced Shots.

Visit the BASC shotgun coaching line and you can also have your eye dominance, stance and safe gun handling technique checked as well as the fit of your gun assessed by renowned clay coach Mike Williams.

Plenty of instruction available

In addition, the Countryside Alliance will have a team of 14 fully qualified clay shooting instructors to provide tuition and advice and the CPSA will also have 10 qualified instructors on the Shooting Line.

Assessing safety

The BASC will also be carrying out Safe Shot assessments, which give an overview of managing and using a shotgun safely. By attending (and passing the assessment) you will qualify to wear a gold Safe Shot pin.

Watching the experts

On Saturday 1 August, the CPSA Country Champions will be showing how it’s done as they compete to be crowned the Champions of Champions. If you aspire to being a better Shot, then watch the top Shots in the country battling it out for the Professional Shoot Trophy on Sunday 2 August.

Storing your gun

If you bring your own gun, or buy one at the event and don’t wish to carry it about, a safe and secure gun facility is available daily and overnight.
