School children benefit from BASC Legacy Fund

Scottish school children are set to benefit from a £15,000 contribution from BASC’s Legacy Fund. The organisation has donated the sponsorship money to Estates that Educate (ETE), an award-winning initiative run by Scotland’s regional moorland groups, which aims to educate and inspire youngsters from across the Angus, Grampian and Tayside regions of Scotland. 

Kirk Norbury, regional coordinator of the Angus Glens Moorland Group and ST photographer, said the funding “significantly bolstered the initiative, allowing it to expand its reach and impact over 2,000 children over the course of five days. These hands-on experiences provide young participants with valuable insights into sustainable land management and conservation practices.” 

Following the ETE events, and collaborations at the Angus Show and Royal Highland Show, the partnership will continue at the Scottish Game Fair on 7 July. Last year’s Young Ambassador, Hayley MacDonald, will pass on the title to 13-year-old Campbell Waddell, who has participated in the programme since primary school. 

BASC Scotland director Peter Clark said, “Campbell has been an enthusiastic advocate for the initiative, inviting BASC to his local Scout group and school, and assisting both BASC and his local Angus Glens Moorland Group at the Angus Show.”
