Search begins for new BASC boss

BASC has launched its search for a replacement for long-serving Chief Executive John Swift who has announced he will retire in June 2013.

The recruitment will be overseen by BASC?s Council which aims to make a final choice later this year. The Council has appointed a subcommittee of elected members to work on the decision with external recruitment consultants.

BASC Chairman Robert Irvine said: ?The appointment of a new Chief Executive to build on the successes of BASC under the leadership of John Swift will be a key moment for the association.

John Swift succeeded John Anderton as Chief Executive of the organisation in 1988.

According to the job description, Mr Swift’s replacement will need ?to take an already highly successful and influential organisation onto the next level?. He will have a ?knowledge of and a commitment to shooting sports and safeguarding its future, together with a keen interest in the countryside?.

Officials hope that the successful candidate will start work early next year, before officially starting in office at the organisation?s Annual General Meeting in June.
