ST writer joins convoy to aid Ukraine war effort

Shooting Times news editor Felix Petit joined an aid convoy to Ukraine to provide critical supplies to assist in the war effort against Russia. The convoy consisted of seven vehicles, including 4x4s converted into ambulances and heavily loaded minibuses, coordinated by the charitable organisation Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid (MUA), based in Cheshire. 

Among other key items, the cargo included bandages, generators, fireproof clothing and entrenching tools. The vehicles are intended for front line use and logistical work around the country. 

The convoy travelled by ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, driving for more than 48 hours in snowy conditions through Germany and Poland to the Polish- Ukrainian Border. Once the vehicles and supplies had been dropped at their final locations, the drivers made their way back to the border by public transport and crossed back into Poland by foot. 

Felix told Shooting Times: “It was incredible to see the people of the major cities going about their usual business when buildings were sandbagged and public statues were boarded up to avoid bomb damage. I sincerely hope that even the relatively small donations we were able to supply, along with a bit of our time, hastens the conclusion of this awful war.”
